A DARKER REALITY

Director: Chris Kazmier

"In this suspense thriller from the executive producer of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, police detective Alex Balasco (James Burns) teams with psychiatrist Jesse Metcalfe (Sunny Doench) in a desperate hunt for the serial killer known as Ghost (Daniel Baldwin"

A Darker Reality, starring  Daniel Baldwin, James C. Burns, and Sunny Doench, is one of those films that you keep passing up because, well, a Baldwin is the bad guy and it is described as just another torture genre based film. Visions of a bad cover version of Hostel and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre flood your mind. Well I'm here to tell you to erase any preconceived perception about this film being typical,  or less than intense. The film is about "The Ghost"played by Daniel Baldwin, who keeps women of all ages in his dank basement for years torturing them. Sounds familiar, huh? Well think again! This movie is so disturbing and sick, that it makes the "Human Centipede" look like a Pixar film. There is forced sex with bloody corpses, virgin girls being stuffed with rotten human remains, then sewed up. Female castration is also a part of the Ghost's torture regime. But let me say this. It's not just a bunch of needless gore and torture porn, it has a great plot as well. Detectives are hot on the trail, there are twists and turns, surprises and shocking outcomes. I'm not going to lie. This film is sick. And not for the faint of heart. It's unrated and even though it's an indie, it is one of the most realistic horror films I have seen in a long while. What these girls go through makes you ill.The makeup and lighting make it completely authentic. The Ghost and his mentally challenged brother, take turns with these women in every horrific way possible. I recommend this to any serious horror fan.
