ALYCE KILLS

Directed and Written by Jay Lee

Starring Jade Dornfeld, Tamara Feldman James Duval, and Eddie Rouse

Running time 90 minutes

For some time this film has been catching my attention, but I never stopped to watch it. I just didn’t expect much. I hadn’t heard really anything about this one and assumed it was just a run of the mill, middle of the road horror. Well I am happy to say I was very mistaken! I finally gave in and checked it out recently and found it to be a pretty gripping unique journey.

The journey with Alyce begins innocently enough. She and her friend Carroll are having a night out, Carroll is venting about her ex-boyfriends exploits with another acquaintance of theirs and considering a bit of friendly bisexuality as a way to get back at him. The ladies move the party to the rooftop of Alyce’s apartment, where things quickly sour. It isn’t long before Carroll finds herself plummeting to the street below at the hands of our dear Alyce. What ensues is pretty special as we watch Alyce slowly descend into madness, self-loathing, and self-abuse. Almost immediately Alyce begins self-medicating with drugs, in an attempt to deal with her guilt, but drugs aren’t cheap and sex sells so starts her path down sexual deviancy, which fuels her madness. Madness in turn becomes ultra-violence against those who helped create the situation that has led to her current predicament. Culminating in one of the coolest endings I have seen in a while.

Alyce Kills is definitely not your typical anything. It’s a weird trip, with twist and turns that don’t allow you to look away. Jade Dornfeld (Alyce) looks so unlikely in this this role, innocent, sweet, almost timid at times, yet she is able to pull off the conversion to brutal madness with an ease and grace that’s almost understated. She slides into the horrors like slipping into warm comfortable waters and it is awesome to watch. This is definitely a movie that should be seen! *HeatherOmen*
