APPLECART

Over the years I've managed to be able to watch an ungodly amount of movies. Some good some bad some amazing but very few are like Applecart. I say this in regards to the attempt from Mills to bust out a flick with no dialogue  and very minimal usage of sound period, thus relying on the awesome cast to deliver believable performances. This is exactly what they do which helps Mills focus on his vision of depravity and beauty entwined. Let me further explain.

Applecart is broken up into four separate little nasties the first being  “The Sleepover”. A young girl has a friend over one night for a sleep over only to be subjected to her perverted dads extreme actions. Things that aren't easily removed from the mind, even after sometime of viewing.

Next is  “Caretaker”. This one really hits home with me as I've had a grandmother twho went through some of the same ordeals as this one does.

The imagery and story laid out in this tale is utterly horrific...The next tale in question entitled“Dad” would have to be without a doubt the one that sticks in my head, even as I write this review. A  young girl grows up in a bible belt household where things are just outright forbidden and unheard of.  The situations set forth in this tale really got under my skin and flat out gave me the creeps....There's very few scenes I've seen that actually get to me, so to speak, but this one definitely did just that. And lastly were left to finish off with a little nasty called , “Let Me Show You Something”.

Playing out like an art house nasty APPLECART grabs you from the very second it starts playing and doesnt let up till the credits stop rolling.. I've seen several films over the years that went to non dialogue route and only a handfull have managed to succeed, APPLECART is one of those films..I do warn you this film is without a doubt not for your average Joe. It's raw, brutal , nasty and sheer beauty all wrapped up in one little bundle. Many dont agree with the vision of Mills and Ive seen several blatantly attack him. This is something I just dont understand..As a horror movie fan isnt the objective to " awe" the viewer?  APPLECART succeeds in that aspect 100%. All of the shorts are shot in the same black and white silent style with every character wearing a mime’s mask. The cinematography is beautiful and as I've previouslly stated the performances from such brilliant actors such as Haley Jay Madison, Dave Parker, Allison Egan, Josh Miller, Brandon Salkil, Erin R. Ryan and Joni Duran allow Mills to shine.
