Directed by John Addis
Originally intended and aired as a four-part intentionally campy miniseries for WELM-TV in East Lansing in 2003, THE BELLS OF BEAUMONT TOWER, covers all bases of film from horror to drama to tell one hell of a story.
The story begins with Crystal (Christina Cinadr), and her daughter, Nikki (Kelli Hardman) making a visit to the “tower” for some questions left unanswered. As the mother begins to tell her about when she was younger, at Michigan State University, campus students just started disappearing right into thin air, and no one would say why or how. It all started for them on, what should have been, a normal night of Poker. Reluctant to play that night Nick realizes that the groups never tardy buddy is, well; tardy!!! This is where Nick (Nick Wilson) and Crystal, along with their friends tried to solve the mystery over the Beaumont Tower. Can they stop the evil before more innocent lives are taken?
It’s really cant begin to express how cool I felt that this film was. As previously stated, it covers a lot of genre bases throughout the film. They manage to add the humorous aspect with sayings such as” God is just an adults Santa Claus” and cleanly fusing them into a dark bleak setting. Self proclaimed, campy, it does have that certain feel about it. The filming was really slick with sweet aerial shots to a good editing of some cool mystery like frames. I was very pleased at the dedication all the cast and crew put forth to make this a cool flick. They really came through and delivered a powerful performance. Of course there were some scenes that didn’t really play through too well, due to some nervousness, but they pick back up rather nicely in no time. It’s hard to believe this is the first feature length film to come from John Addis and Spartan City Productions. There’s definitely something to keep an eye out for from these cats in the future. THE BELLS OF BEAUMONT TOWER was a very cool flick and I was happy to have been able to see it.
