THE BASEMENT is just one of the many excellent tales that you"ll read within this collection from Ds Ullery. BEYOND WHERE THE SKY ENDS comes at you right out of the opening gate with THE BASEMENT, a damn fine creepy ass story involving, to some people, one of their worst nightmares. Resembling those creepy monster movies author Ullery nails this one with a ten ton sledge hammer. THE CLEARING continues to keep you on your toes every time you turn the page. With every cringing moment the build up is completely amazing. A couple decides to take a weekend away from civilization and rough it out in the woods. Upon hearing a noise (picture a banshee if you will) waking them up, Jacob decides to go search for the sound that has them frightened. makes sense right? well this doesn't go over to well and ends the story on a felling of wanting more and more of this story.

 

THE COGNIZANT is another favorite of mine..This creepy , slimy morsel of candy will make your skin crawl and cringe picturing what Ullery is writing about. Just outright beautifully nasty.

 

Another solid effort and one of my favorites is THE FIRST RULE OF SHOWMANSHIP. A story of betrayal sends a professional clown down the path into madness, with horrifying consequences. He's on his last leg. There will not be any more performances for this cat and when he finds out that his wife is cheating on him he devises a cryptic , disturbing story that had me on my seat at each turning of the page. the visual descriptions penned by Ullery make this such a great scary tale. His use of thematic situations reach out and grab you by the throat only to let go as the tale ends.

 

Resembling that of a mix between THE Fog and the Creepshow tale THE Raft; THE HAUNTED AIR will make one shake their heads and grin at the awesomeness just read. TIS THE SEASON looks into a biblical referenced dark tale of old. Once again he’s amazed me with his imagination.

 

I remember my first day of High School. I remember being deathly terrified to go. In the town and time I grew up in it was a known fact that when you became a Freshman it was your time. Time to be made a fool. Kids would get snatched up out of the hallways and drug into the bathrooms only to be stuck in trashcans or even the toilet. We've all heard about hazing or gone through it ourselves so let me tell you when I finished reading BG GRUFF I did several fist pumps and was like" take that db" BG GRUFF tells the tale of how during the weekends the students would all congregate to this online chat room and discuss anything they wanted about school..trash teachers, talk about what Mary was wearing, stuff such as that. Then one day the school bully discovers the forum and signs up and immediately begins to cyber bully his classmates. As some time goes by an ominous user by the name of BG GRUFF joins without anyone really paying any attention and begins to fire back against the bully. This sends him on an outrage and is determined to discover the horrifying truth behind the anonymous individual who humiliated him online. A task he will surely regret and one he'd never dreamed could ever happen. BG GRUFF is such a damn fine tale that hits home and makes you feel happy that someone stands for the rights of all those bullied. The presence and theme penned by D.S. Ullery is flawless done making you gain a true sense of emotion of the situations as they unfold. There's more then enough horrific situations to keep you high It's just a brilliant tale from beginning to end. I found nothing wrong or that I didn't like about this.

 

I could go on and on but if i explained every story chances are that I'd probably end up spoiling one of the stories. Other notables herein are GORE, which was my favorite nasty little horror feasts, and THE NEW MEAT help make this anthology easily a favorite. There's more then enough horrific situations to keep you entertained. It's just a brilliant anthology from beginning to end. I found nothing wrong or that I didn't like about this.This is without a doubt, one of the coolest collections I've read to date. I WILL be reading more from D.S. Ullery. His flawless narrative and drive are not to be shunned. He shows here that he's very versatile in going from one genre to another and making each and every one work. Keep an eye out on this guy, he's just getting started.
