IN THE PINES (THE BEGINNING)

DIR. MISTY SIMMONS-POTEET
In The Pines (The Beginning) is a short film based on local folklore in White Co. Tennessee. The setting is the late 1800's, late October. Adeline and Lisette are two sisters who are fed up with the amount of time their husbands spend hunting. Cecil and Thaddeus are two brothers at odds over the way they treat their wives. Adeline and Lisette hatch a plan to teach their husbands a lesson, but the lesson the two brothers learn isn't quite what they expected.
I'm going on record here to say I couldn't find one damn thing wrong with this film , and I looked for something wrong. As stated previously set in the 1800s the wardrobe, surrounding and even the dialect seemed to be spot on! Playing out as made for TV type airing the story at hand is a nice little nod at a Hitchcockian type of tale. With minimal blood IN THE PINES manages to play out very well as a creepy tale , one we've all heard at sometime in our life.
The most inpressive aspects of IN THE PINES has to be the beautiful cinematography and comlete execution of the story wanting to be told. The production values on this are baffeling. One would never know that this is an independent film. Director Misty Simmons-Poteet shows us she has some mad skills and the obvious dedication to detail leaves no doubt that she'll go very far in this industry if she continues the path shes heading in. Add another one to the must watch list!!!
