Tonight I sat down to watch this nifty sounding flick called RITES OF SPRING. The plot begins with a couple of young women breaking down on a remote dirt road only to get help from a crazy farmer talking about time to pay. It’s the rites of spring. It must be done. There’s no escaping it. Then that of a ransom scheme that turns into a nightmare for a group of kidnappers who become victims of the horrifying secret that must be paid every spring. The movie starts out very well but when the two scenarios collide it just gets stupid and done by hundreds before.

 

There is nothing, and I mean nothing, new here. The best way for me to describe this film would be to say it’s a JEEPERS CREEPERS Creeper mixed with CASTLE FREAK in a SCARECROW landscape. The cinematography was done very well and the background ambiance was spot on. Even the kill scenes and blood were above expected and got sadly lost in such a drab outing. There just wasn't any substance there to make this a good film. It’s not the worst but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless someone else already had it. I was fairly upset at this as I was really looking forward to it. If ya just want a good popcorn type of movie then this is OK, I suppose.
