Scenic Route honestly grabbed my attention initially with its movie poster, a close up shot of a bloodied mohawked man, looking very intense. Once the art caught my eye I started noticing that it was getting pretty good buzz in various media, so I finally gave in to curiosity, sitting down to watch it recently. I must say I am very glad I did! Although not straight up horror, it does have its dark moments, falling more into a psychological thriller/drama.

This film isn't ground breaking in any way. It has a pretty straight up story, Mitchell and Carter, longtime friends who have drifted in different directions reconnecting on a long distance road trip, run into car trouble. The story has moments is fairly predictable in many areas, however there are a few moments that will pleasantly surprise you.

The dialogue is believable and sometimes very biting between our two friends, leaving you almost aching for the others ego. The acting by Duhamel, and Fogler is really superb, driving the film with a true to life range of emotions, and struggles. Shot almost entirely around just the two friends the film never gets dull, between the acting and beautiful back drop of the dessert its a great piece of work! Near the end you feeling like maybe the film lost a bit of edge but don't despair, all may not be what it seems or then again maybe it is???

Scenic Route is definitely is definitely worth the 87 minutes you'll invest in it. It's put together better than most, and leaves the viewer to figure things out for themselves. So settle in and enjoy the Scenic Route!
