As a young boy i remember standing in line with my parents waiting to see JAWS in the movie theater.The vivid imagery i saw as a child carved a terror in my mind that to this date has kept me from the ocean. I still refuse to swin in an ocean. 30 some odd years later and Jose Prendes has re awakened that fear and solidified the notion that i will never swim in an ocean, EVER. Not only is there a big ass great white, making one get a bigger boat and even a massive whale that eludes its relentless attacker. Now there's lava sharks!!! yes i said lava sharks spewing out of volcanic magma!

 

SHARCANO isnt a movie but merely a novel coming January 27th, 2014 from Curiosity Quills publishers written by JosePrendes, better known for Corpses Are Forever and The Haunting of Whaley House. The plot revolves around three violently erupting volcanoes that start spewing sharks made of magma. It not only signals the end of mankind, but the start of the sharkpocalypse. SHARCANO begins with the discovery of charred and half-eaten megalodon shark corpse beached. A priest whos been studying the development realizes the time is near and there's nothing that humanity can do about it and commits suicide. Unknown as to why volcanoes start popping up around the globe. The first being a previously unknown volcano riseen from the China Sea and brings about a tsunami that destroys Shanghai. Yellowstone erupts after 640,000 years of silence and a pit in Nicaragua known as the "mouth of hell" begins violently spewing lava.When a reporter named Mick Cathcart hears of the news he's hot on the scene. This will be his big break, it'll make him famous. Little does he know that not only will this truly be his big break but his participation in all of this is more then he bargained for. He may very well be one of those responsible for Earths outcome. He eventually meets up with Marine Biologist Agnes Brach who is set out looking for answers, but never expected to stumble upon the biblical end times.With the help of a beleaguered priest and a billionaire industrialist, Mick and Agnes scramble to shutter the volcanoes and put down the lava sharks before the whole world burns to a cinder.Is this real? how could it be real? Yet with sharks made of lava shooting from volcanoes to devour anyone in their way, how could anyone deny it? Will humanity find a way to stop these beasts or will we become one with nature?

 

Being a heavy reader I try to locate certain authors for certain themes. For instance if I want to read a good zombie novel i'll search for a new Brian Keene novel before I look anywhere else...Vampires there are a few in the like such as Anne Rice, Brian Lumley and Laurrell K Hamilton. It's just something you do. when you familiarize yoursdelves with an author you come back for more. After reading SHARCANO i can honestly place Prendes in the same company as the aforementiond as well as those from King or Barker in their respected ares. I feel that Prendes has earned the right to be known as one of the best creature storytellers.Prendes weaves a tension building story that will have you on the edge of the seat everytime you turn the page. I found myself several times getting upset and depressed at certain situations to certain characters throughout the read. Prendes put so much life into this tale and you truly , and i mean truly!, gain a sense of sympathy and a billion other emotions toward the charcters herein. running at 408 pages once read I wanted more. I was upset that the story had ended. If you've seen Sharknado or the Mega Shark vs Mecha Shark (which Prendes wrote the screenplay for), SHARCANO is "THE" perfect companion piece...i reccommend anyone buy this novel when it comes out. I'll completely throw my name out there and vouch for it!!! I plan to read this again within the next little bit.

 

It would seem that Prendes isn't just an established director but the man can outright pen a creepy asian influenced creature tale about lava sharks that makes you beg for more.
