Dir. Kristian Hanson and John B. Sovie II

SLEDGE is a fun movie. No matter how you look at it. It's just a pure popcorn type flick. I believe what makes this work so well is the fact that it's not meant to be so serious and plays out like a good ol fashioned sledgefest. SLEDGE hits you from the beginning with humor and originality and continues on throughout the film. Playing out as a film within a film the opening graces us with Assly's True American Horror television program, the action kicks off instantly with skull crushing deaths from the killer, Adam Lynch. A killer who seems to be a mix between Jason Vorhees with the strength and Freddy Krueger with the cut ups and laughs.Adam believes he is in a movie and video game that he has created in his head. It almost feels like a live action comic. Sort of like one of those old school EC Comics.

Make note that there are a few downfalls to this films production but being a first attempt from co director and writer Kristian Hanson one can expect to have these issues. That being said the issues herein aren't enough to hamper the film. With no CGI the film relies on practical effects of head bashings and entrails to make even the purest gore hound happy. Filmed damn near next to nothing this movie is fun and cool. Now I'll say this is one of those movies that I feel will go down in position itself alongside other cult classics such as the Evil Dead's, the Sleepaway Camps as well as well as other excellent straight up cheese films for a great night of excellent filming. If you're sitting around the house wondering what to watch on a saturday night with some buds, give SLEDGE a chance. Grab some brewskis and kick back for some blood and laughs.
