SMUDGE
With the amount of items I watch, read and review my time is pretty limited. I want to hear something new or close to it. It would just so happen that author Lori Safranek has managed to achieve this task in the story SMUDGE. Let me explain.
SMUDGE is a wicked little tale of a man who has been collecting tattoos for quite a while. The thing that makes SMUDGE different and unique is that his tattoos disappear only to return later on a different part of his body.
This gains the attention of a local circus owner leading to a lucritive gig..One day Smudge notices a tattoo he hasn't seen before. Upon looking through all the stencils of his tattoos he notices he never got this one, this one is new. And this one hurts like hell and is making him go crazy. This sets up the story and Smudges attempt at getting rid of this tattoo.
I'll leave it at that. Safranek takes you out of body and into the body of Smudge. The tension is built very well and had you getting deeper and deeper into with every turn of the page. She has her own style and lands her into a group of talented writers who aren't afraid to take risks and deliver a punch in the face story. I must also make note that I felt a slight nod to The Illustrated Man. SMUDGE is just one wee portion of a collection surrounding craziness that makes up a sideshow carnival. I know I for one will be trying to pick up the rest..
Please be sure to head over to her AMAZON page for more intormation.
