Dir. Edward Payson

The next film in question came as a surprise to me. I had the opportunity to watch this via THE MOVIE AND MUSIC NETWORK as part of their affiliate program and I must say I was very entertained. Let me explain the plot to this and then I'll get to some of the points as to why I felt this worked so well....

In 2009, the small town of Cohasset, Massachusetts was rocked with tragedy. A 17-year-old high school senior named Collin Mason murdered three classmates. All the murders were videotaped and uploaded to the Internet via bit torrent sites and for three days, the world viewed the murders of these three innocent teens. Through legal action, the parents of the victims were able to remove all footage from the Internet and the town tried to save face by pretending it never happened. Bootleg copies of this footage are still passed around and downloaded through illegal means. The impact of this video is still being felt in Cohasset today. The video has become infamous, and is now referred to as The Cohasset Snuff Film.

I felt this film worked on a few different levels. One being they didn't overdo it with special effects or scares. They're plain and simple which allow you to just enjoy the story for a change. Many have claimed the lead actor playing Collin Mason over does it and comes across as too much like a comic villain. Someone please explain to me just how a serial killer is supposed to act?  I, for one can completely see someone acting as such. As for the decline of the character throughout the film, I didn't see much of a difference throughout the film. He came across to me as psycho from the beginning and for that  I felt made this movie an enjoyable night of viewing. The surrounding actors accomplish their task at accompanying the lead and do a fairly well job.  I was thoroughly happy to for once not see over exaggerated kill scenes and a bunch of blood. Don't get me wrong I enjoy blood but sometimes it's nice to just see a film for what it's worth and nothing more.

I believe the direction of this as a found footage documentary makes the film yet my only beef is that I wish the characters would have been mentioned in the credits rather then making up mock names as if this really happened. The story in question is very real and coming off the heals of school slayings it does play out fairly creepy and for me works. I can't vouch for anyone else but I personally enjoyed it. Kudos to director Edward Payson for sticking to his guns and making the film he wanted.
