I've never been one to set and watch a documentray. Watching them in school turned me off them in a bad way. Over the years I've seen maybe a handful that i enjoyed. Stuart Wahlin's THE AX MAN ENIGMA is now one of those docus. Award-winning filmmaker Stuart Wahlin reopens a series of unsolved ax murders that gripped the nation's heartland with terror more than a hundred years ago. In 1912, someone crept into the home of the Moore family and brutally axed them to death while they slept. Bearing unique similarities to other Midwestern murders during a two-year period, the 'Ax Man' is believed to have killed more than two dozen people before the trail of blood ended. Today, all of the murders remain unsolved, but the new film 'Slay Utterly' (which recently won best screenplay at the Cinemaesque Screenplay competition) takes a fresh look at the Ax Man case through fictional exploration.

Although the Villisca (Iowa) ax murders have gained much attention from paranormal thrill-seekers in recent years, "The Ax Man Enigma" makes a compelling argument tying the murders of six children and two adults to eerily-similar crime scenes throughout the Midwest. The film suggests a lone 'Ax Man' took dozens of lives before disappearing after a two-year rampage. THE AX MAN ENIGMA was filmed locally in the Chicago areas using local talent. As I previouslly stated im no documentary fan but Wahlin manages to have enough of the right questions and content to keep you entertained. It's obvious that this man did his homework pertaining to this subject. This hesitance from some interviewed makes it that much better. You cant have everyone agree to do it right? just note THE AX MAN ENIGMA is a seriouslly sweet docu as a precursor to the anticipated feature film based off thius story, SLAY UTTERLY, to co star Bill Oberst and Melantha BlackthorneTo cut it short and not give anything away just note that Wahlin does all the right things herein to make this a very enjoybale documentary and for that i commend you sir!
