Dir. Shane Ryan
Actors: Kai Lanette, Alyssa Hedrick, Rob Dale, Jerell Gray
With very, very minimal dialogue, Shane Ryan delivers a powerful outing that not only is a beautifully crafted piece of cinema but is also one hell of a message. THE GIRL WHO WASN’T MISSING plays out as so….
The transformation of a young woman, who was gang raped one night and forced to move out, uncoupled with the rapid changing from childhood in the streets whoring herself out. Doing whatever it takes out in the scum infested streets just to survive. While this is going on you get no sense of care from anyone at all about the fact that she’s not there. They just completely don’t give a shit. And that in itself is very depressing. To even fathom that a parent would hurt their own child let alone force them out of the house after they were gang raped is hard for me to digest. I would normally ask if people really do this but sadly I know people who this has personally happened to.
THE GIRL WHO WASN’T MISSING is a powerful film that shows you just what most people’s options would be in situations such as this. The opportunities given to the abused and forgotten seem to have gotten worse over the years and now a days it seems that more and more people have no conscience what so ever toward the lifestyle ,that those in dire need of help, endure.
Shane Ryan explores a part of the human psyche through damn near purely visuals accompanied by a perfectly utilized soundtrack. That and the spot on acting by Kai Lanette (who, from what I understand also helped write this story) set up this euphoric ride of depression and guilt that you feel from this beautiful tragedy you just experienced. As I write this review and recap the movie it’s making me feel dirty and like I need to take a shower for enjoying this movie as much as I do. Don’t get me wrong, THE GIRL WHO WASN’T MISSING is one hell of a masterpiece, but it’s such a depressing movie you feel bad for liking it so much. I feel Shanes’ movies will carry on for a long time and will be viewed by a barrage of different mindsets from now on. This movie will fall into the underground cultic movie lists. This movie may change your life. It will damn well make you look at life from a different perspective from now on. So if you feel balsy and want something that’s going to stick with you pick this bad boy up. I must advise however that you watch with adults only….I highly recommend watching this.
