TOAD ROAD

  DIR. Jason Banker

Where oh where to begin with this hot mess. TOAD ROAD plays out much like a Gus Van Zandt film but without nearly as much heart. It's an attempt at showing us a portrait of contemporary youth culture, where the lines between reality and fiction are blurred with often frightening results. Sort of an anti drug film I suppose but it's hard to tell with all the “supposed simulated” drug usage. I'm not buying it, maybe you will. It merely just falls on it's ass.

They seemed to be using drugs during the movie and from what I understand one of the main girls died not too long after filming this in the way she gets messed up in the film. Such a shame, that in an anti drug film, one would be such a hypocrite. I say seem to be because there isn't any characterization otherwise to distinguish differently

All in all TOAD ROAD was fairly much a letdown. I was looking forward to watching this, as I had heard so much about it throughout the industry, so as me and my companion for the evening pushed play we both left with that empty feeling of just being reamed. I will sadly (NOW don’t listen to me kiddies, drugs are bad mmkay) but if you watch this inebriated, it makes more sense The saddest thing about this is it's highly evident that there's something there. So much more. It's almost as if they just wanted to make an edgy drug induced movie. Well if that's the case, then they succeeded. Otherwise, maybe it's just me but I didn’t get the message.

So the question is this? Would I recommend it? Sure, maybe I'm just not getting it and I truly believe there’s more to this. Maybe I'll revisit it sometime and see if my opinions change.
