VITINA MOLGAARD

Necro Stein-  Tell the readers where you reside if you will

Vitina Molgaard-  I currently reside in a city north of Sacramento , California. A place with quite a history that is slowly being over- shadowed by the increase of traffic that passes through on the way to somewhere .

NS- What do you like to do to to just unwind and have a good time

VM- For me , I like to do a number of things to unwind and have fun. I vary in what those things are. Sometimes I just like to curl up with a good book and have some peaceful time. For fun I enjoy gathering with a group of friends and going out . The activities vary from our monthly game of Bunco to Yard sales, a movie out , lunch or just getting together at one another’s home and visiting. Does that sound boring ? It isn’t., in this day and age far to many people become isolated and end up living here on the computer.

NS- Who did you grow up idolizing and Who is your biggest influence in the literary world

VM-  My  personal opinion on having someone that I grew up idolizing reveals something about who I am. I have only had one person in my life that holds that position…my Mother. A woman who raised eleven children with grace , truth and an abundance of love. I do not have any  famous people that I choose to admire that much. To me we are all just people  with some who have become well known by what they do. I will admit that I do have some that I admire but idolizing them …no.
Who is the biggest influence in the literary world is a difficult question to answer. I wonder if you mean currently or  through-out time ? With the selection so varied for both time frames , the present or the past it makes it very complicated. Just so many genres to ponder over. and try to select one.

NS- Who are a few of your favorite authors

VM-Again my reading material has been very diverse.  I can select a number of people who I consider favorites. Fydor Dostovsky is one of my special reads, Kahlil Gibran  ranks very high on my list, then again we  must wander on into my very deep affection for so many of Ray Bradbury. The man never put out a story that I did not enjoy. John Steinbeck , is underrated by many , but his tales of poverty and the struggles to survive  also touch a very deep place in my own life. I know pretty much everyone expects my next one, Stephen King , Of course he ranks right up there , as I am one of his Dear and Constant Readers.

Ns-  Who would you most compare your work to?

VM- I find poetry to be my own personal place to fit into and as a result there are only a few who I would even attempt to compare my writing with. Since my writing is so very personal and real it can be difficult. The things I have currently in my own  private place are dark and often extremely depressing, as I have battled with depression and far too many losses. So I  guess I would relate with Sylvia Plathe.Yes I know she committed suicide and no that is not my intention. Although I have faced the possibility of it in my distant past.

NS- To date what is your most compelling tale, whether it be poem or story, and why?

VM-Personally my most compelling work at this time is a poem I wrote for my fiance , who was murdered some  forty-three years ago and still miss and grieve the loss of. It is called ‘Sweet Breath Of Life.’ The reason why it affects me so strongly should be obvious. Death has camped around my life  since my early childhood. I certainly hope this is not depressing anyone reading this. It is so much of what has made me the person I am today. ..filled with empathy and concern for others.

NS- What can we expect from you in the future?

VM- Currently I am still working on a short story and a collection of poems. When will they be done is still open ended. Hopefully the story will be completed by Halloween of this year and will be called “The Eating Tree.”

NS- Tell the readers a little bit about how the poems featured came to fruition...for instance how much meaning is behind them?

VM- I wrote the poem , “ The Promise of Mortality,” recently after receiving some bad news regarding my husband, and it took me back to a place where I once allowed myself to hide out from facing the reality of living and dying.
“ Sleeping  Soulless, Or “… came from a windy and frightening nightmare. I hope you enjoy them for what they are.

NS- any foavorite horror movies? why?

VM-  Interestingly you inquired about any favorite Horror movies. Well my favorites go way back to the classics, The Invisible Man with Claude  Raines , The tormented man driven to insanity is a riveting tale. Another  would be Dracula with Bela Lugosi…Not to be ignored The Bride of Frankenstein , with Lon Chaney Jr. An interesting fact , at least as far as I am concerned is in regards to Mr. Lugosi , who made a number of his movies without speaking a word of English. He actually memorized the lines without knowing what he was saying. After making a number of films the directors realized his value as a actor and insisted on his actually learning the language.

NS- How do you feel about the amount of material out today to read thanks to self publication? And being a contributor myself how do you feel HORROR NOVEL REVIEWS supports and what do they add to the genre?

VM- I can entwine the last two things you want to know into one easily…at least I hope it is easy. You wonder how I feel about the amount of self published works as well as asking about Horror Novel Reviews. I am pleased that the market has opened up with the ability for writers to get their work out there without going through the larger publishing houses. It gives us as readers an opportunity to be exposed to many new up and coming authors that we would more than likely missed out on otherwise. As far as being a contributor along side you at Horror Novel Reviews, my feelings are that the site opens up doors , promotes and supports the genre through giving both up and coming authors as well as completely first time new ones a forum to share their talents. I have read a great many books that delight me and continue to hope for even more.

The Promise of Mortality

Mortality came knocking at my door…

Awakening old memories and pain once more.

  The grayness permeates around me…

Thickening and blocking out the light.

The realization of the emptiness has been lurking….

  Sneaking about …

  Leaving hints of it’s existence.

Once again ,,,I feel the walls closing in as they are being rebuilt.

  Will you protect me ?

   Do not smother me…

As I find I reside locked in once again.

  Within these imprisoning walls.

I was fortunate enough to garb a few minutes of a lovely ladies time, someone i call a dear friend and pick her brain a tad.....She was even kind enough to submit a few thoughts of her mind in the form of poems...I hope you enjoy this co poet as much as I have.

Sleeping Soulless , Or

  Laying in my bed…

My mind drifting off into slumber.

Something shifted and altered my night.

Have you looked around lately ?

Have you heard that sound  ?

There is a shadow moving nearby…

Is there someone to be found ?

  I can feel another presence…

  Someone…something draws near.

  Fight or flight ?

I fear the option   has been taken from me…

As I ponder my ability to survive…

The figure which now looms over me.
